Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

This website is operated by Simon Burdon as an individual author — not as a registered business. This policy explains what information is collected when you visit, why, and what choices you have.

What I collect

If you choose to sign up for a free reader gift or reading-list updates, I collect the email address you provide. That's the only personal information this site asks for — there are no other forms, no account creation, and no purchases made directly through this site (book purchases happen on Amazon, which has its own separate privacy practices).

Browsing the site itself (the home page, gallery, and about page) doesn't require or collect any personal information. The light/dark mode switch stores your preference only in your own browser's local storage — it's never sent to me or stored on the server, and it isn't a cookie.

How I use it

Your email address is used only to send you the reader gift you requested, and occasional updates about new book releases. I don't use it for anything else, and I don't sell, rent, or share it with advertisers.

Third parties involved in sending email

Emails are sent through Brevo, a transactional email service, which processes your email address on my behalf in order to deliver messages. Brevo may store and process this data on servers outside your own country. You can read Brevo's own privacy practices at brevo.com/legal/privacypolicy.

Where your data is stored

Subscriber information is stored in a private database that I manage myself, hosted in Australia. Only I have access to it, through a password-protected admin area.

How long I keep it

I keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed. I don't automatically delete inactive subscribers, but you can unsubscribe yourself at any time, or ask me directly (see Contact below), and it'll be removed promptly.

Your rights

Wherever you're reading from, you can ask me at any time to:

If you're in the European Economic Area or UK, these rights are provided under the GDPR/UK GDPR, and you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you feel your information has been mishandled.

If you're a California resident, you have the right under the CCPA to request access to or deletion of your personal information. I don't sell personal information to third parties, so there's no "opt-out of sale" needed — there's nothing being sold.

Children's privacy

This site isn't directed at children, and I don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.

Changes to this policy

If I make meaningful changes to how this site handles information, I'll update this page and the "Last updated" date above.
